Where can I fly?
There are many beautiful sites around Australia which you can fly at once you’ve completed your PG2 licence! You must fly a site rated to your skill and licence allowance. A list of all the sites in Australia can be found here:
What does it cost to fly?
Aside from your course fees, pilots require annual membership with SAFA, the Sports Aviation Federation of Australia. This cost is approximately $380 depending on which state you live in, and must be paid once you have completed the PG2 training course. Before you begin PG2 training, you require a PG1 student licence, which cost $25.
A deposit of $500 secures a place in the course. Various payment options available*.
*All credit card and/or paypal payments including international bank transfers incur a credit card/bank processing fee.
Licence Course cancellations more than 4 weeks prior are refunded in full*. Cancellations less than 4 weeks and not later than 1 week prior to the course start date are not refunded (unless the course was run as full whereby the place was filled on short notice), they can however be credited towards another course within 12 months. Cancellations 1 week or less prior to the course start date are not refunded.
*Full refund in case of a bank transfer purchase. All credit card and/or paypal purchase cancellations including international bank transfers incur a credit card/bank processing fee.
What level of fitness do I need?
A regular level of fitness is required when learning to fly. Training is often the most physical part of paragliding as a whole, and once you have your licence, flying is much like sitting in a sofa in the sky!
What weight limitations are there?
Paragliding is one of the unique sports where weight plays an advantage! However the limit for pilots and passengers is 130kgs.
When is the best time of the year to fly?
Flying in Australia is all year round! Though the season typically starts in August and runs until April, Queensland weather is extra generous, and is flyable all through winter months.
Can I travel and fly?
Absolutely! Being able to travel with your little magic aircraft which packs into your backpack, is one of the main reasons why people decide to take up paragliding. How good is that!
